Balfour Cockburn Lodge No. 2805

  • Consecrated 9th May 1900
  • Meets on the fourth Tuesday in January, February, March, October and November and the second Tuesday in December.
  • Installation Meeting 29th April.

Named in honour of the first Provincial Grand Master of the newly formed Province of Guernsey & Alderney, Brigade-Surgeon James Balfour Cockburn, MD. The Lodge was consecrated on the 9th of May 1900, its first Worshipful Master being Right Worshipful Brother Balfour Cockburn.

We are proud to have also provided a second Provincial Grand Master, Right Worshipful Brother David Hodgetts, LVO, together with several Deputy Provincial Grand Masters and many Grand and Provincial Grand Lodge Officers.

The Lodge meets at the Masonic Centre, St Martin’s, monthly on the fourth Tuesday of October to March inclusive.  The season ends with the Installation of the new Master on or as near to the 29th of April in recognition of the first Worshipful Master’s birth date. Our meetings usually commence at 6.30pm and conclude by 10:30pm.

The Lodge has always been considered as small and select and has often been the smallest Lodge in the Province, with average membership being 45-50 Brethren. The membership in the mid to late 20th century was considered as the “St Peter Port Town Traders Lodge” as that was what many of its then members were. Today however it has morphed into a more general Lodge and includes professional and former Military men, but it welcomes Brethren from all walks of life. The Lodge also boasts several two or even three generation members amidst its ranks.

Our ceremonies are unique in the Channel Islands. We are proud to remain a Logic Ritual Lodge, which we take great pride in delivering to a high standard by the “Art Memoire”.

The Lodge traditionally has a strong charitable base and its membership can be found actively promoting causes in as well as outside of Masonry.

Our Festive Boards (Dinner after the Meeting) can be guaranteed to offer camaraderie, good value and of good cheer, with many hearty toasts and after dinner speeches and singing.

Balfour-Cockburn Lodge after 120 years still United in the grand design of being happy and communicating happiness and making good men better.
