Lodge Fidelis No. 1809
- Consecrated 28th April 1879.
- Meets fourth Wednesday in months of Jan-May & Sept-Nov & third Monday in December.
- Installation meeting fourth Wednesday in January.
Lodge Fidelis, which grew out of Loyalty Lodge’s high membership, was Consecrated in 1879. Membership was expected to be of interest to the granite industry particularly in St. Sampson’s. By 1893 there were around 30 active members.
Our current membership is varied, both in age and profession, including people from the Construction Industry, (Architects, Engineers, Surveyors, Contractors) as well as from professions such as growers, IT consultants, Finance, Retail, Hospitality and even a Silversmith. There are typically 60-65 members of the lodge.
Lodge Fidelis have meetings on the 4th Wednesday of January to May and September to November and lastly the third Monday of December. Before our meetings we rehearse our ceremony, which is often followed with a beer and curry.
We take our ritual seriously, but not too seriously. We encourage our members to participate in a way and a pace that they feel comfortable with, be that ritual, lodge administration or during the festive board. Everyone’s contribution is valued equally.
Visiting other lodges is encouraged and reciprocated. We also aim to encourage our members to join and expand their journey in Freemasonry by participating in other masonic orders.
The Lodge has a strong nucleus of experienced members, with some more recent and younger members who are progressing in their understanding of Freemasonry and who will be supported to secure the Lodge’s future.
Although respectful of our traditions, we are always open to new ideas and contributions. The Lodge seeks to hold very friendly and enjoyable dinners mixing formality with fun. We aim to have a reputation for making new members and visitors feel very welcome.
As a family friendly lodge, the Worshipful Master will often have a Ladies night to celebrate his year. This is at his total discretion, but often there are 100+ people in attendance for a social evening, dance and charity raising night. These events are good fun and very well supported. The lodge also endeavours to have at least 1 social event in the year, a BBQ, curry night, or evening of euchre.
