Hansard Lodge No. 3515

  • Consecrated 31st May 1911.
  • Meets on the fourth Monday in each month, except June, July, August , October and December.
  • Installation meeting fourth Monday in April.

Hansard Lodge No. 3515 on the Register of the Grand Lodge of England, was consecrated on Tuesday, 30th May 1911 and granted a Centenary Warrant in 2011.

The Lodge was name after The Right Worshipful Brother Colonel Arthur Clifton Hansard, CMG (Past Grand Deacon, England), who was Provincial Grand Master of the Province of Guernsey and Alderney for 17 years, from 1910 to 1927.

The Ceremony of Consecration took place at 5.15pm in the South New Market Hall which had been specially prepared for the occasion.  Apparently this hall had been frequently used for Masonic function on a large scale and was admirably adapted for the purpose.

The Founders of the new Lodge numbered 16.  Eight of these came from St Sampson’s Lodge and four from Doyle’s Lodge of Fellowship.  Hansard Lodge can therefore look on St Sampson’s Lodge No. 2598, as its mother Lodge.  Indeed, for a number of years Hansard Lodge met at the Masonic Temple at St Sampson’s, just off the Bridge.

Whilst historically the Lodge membership came from the local ‘growing’ industry its current membership now comprises individuals from all backgrounds.

The Lodge has a strong nucleus of experienced members, with some more-recent younger members who are progressing in their Freemasonry to secure the Lodge’s future.

The Lodge meets on the fourth Monday in each month (except for June, July, August, October and December) and holds it Installation at the April meeting.  Meetings usually start at 6.30pm (Installation at 6.00pm) and rehearsals at 5.45pm generally on the Friday preceding the regular meetings.  Members are encouraged to partake in the social festive board which follows the meetings.

Since 1965 the Lodge has had a regular exchange of fraternal visits with Loge La Cesarée, 590 Jersey, each visiting the other in alternate years.

We wish to build the Lodge membership.  Given the wide age range of the Lodge we welcome new members at any point in their adult life but are particularly keen to encourage younger candidates who want to progress and wish to contribute to the life and work of the Lodge.  We fully recognise that the Lodge may need to adapt and change some of its practices and that new members may bring some flexibility and fresh ideas.
