On Friday the 3rd January the Province saw its first meeting of 2025 which was Mariners Lodge No 168 Installation Meeting in their 240th, the oldest lodge in the Channel Islands.
The evening was a bumper night with Brethren not only across Guernsey and Alderney but also Provinces from across Jersey and the UK with the largest contingent from the Welsh Rugby Clubs Lodge No 9986 who brought a full team of 15 Brethren.
The evening saw W Bro Gary Le Cloraec Install the new Worshipful Master W Bro Steve Byrne who had a special visitor as his Dad W Bro Bryan Waddell who also made the trip from Wales. The festive board was full of surprises including a bumper raffle and meat draw with over 42 prizes and raised over £1100 which will sponsor a dolphin in the Dolphin Discovery Trail in aid of Autism Guernsey and the GSPCA which the children from St Martins Primary School are painting and be on show through the summer and be auctioned later in the year with 61 others.
There was a wonderful display on historic Mariner items in the display cabinets thanks to the museum team. It was also extra special as it was the first meeting for our Bro. Deputy Provincial Grand Master in Charge in his new role, who is also a member of Mariners Lodge No 168 and in March will become the Provinces new Provincial Grand Master.
There were gifts for all that attended including the fantastic catering team and the celebrations carried on into the weekend as a bus tour thanks to W Bro Byrne had been arranged to show our amazing island to the visitors which due to the many rugby fans included a special trip to Footes Lane where the Guernsey Rugby Club had opened especially for the visitors. The Worshipful Master and all of Mariners Lodge have asked us to extend their sincere thank you to all that helped make it a very special evening and weekend!
