A Masonic Trip to Bath!

Organised and led by W Bro Steve Edwards, the DC of Mariners Lodge 168 and current Somerset Provincial Grand Assistant Standard Bearer, six Guernsey Brethren travelled to Bath last weekend to help celebrate the 200th Anniversary of Lodge of Honour 379.

W Bro’s Mike Le Conte, Rob Grant, Will Holloway, Nigel Chescoe and Bro Tony De Garis, most accompanied by their wives, travelled with W Bro Steve and his wife to the Apex hotel in Bath, their base for the weekend and the venue for a Gala Dinner/Dance Saturday night.

Arriving early afternoon on Friday, some enjoyed a tour around the famous Roman Baths whilst others sampled the huge selection of shops and coffee bars before venturing out that evening to local restaurants.

Saturday saw the ladies take a Jane Austen tour followed by shopping (ouch!) whilst the Brethren, (after a much needed long lunch to commiserate over the hit to their credit cards!), proceeded to the Bath Masonic Temple, joining W Bro Steve who was carrying the Somerset DPGMs Standard for an Official provincial visit to present a 200th anniversary certificate to the lodge of honour 379.

The Guernsey Brethren on arrival were treated to a tour of the Temple and comprehensive and fascinating Bath Masonic Museum. The Temple was originally the Bath Theatre Royal dating back to1739 and has been the home to Bath masonry since 1866.

At the meeting the Brethren were joined by 37 provincial officers from Somerset led by their Deputy Provincial Grand Master Very Worshipful Ben Batley. The meeting was then honoured to receive the Assistant Grand Master David Medlock, a former PGM of Somerset.

The Brethren not only witnessed the rare event of the presentation of a 200year Certificate but also received a very interesting history of the Lodge of Honour together with an overview if life and events of 200 years ago

Later that evening the Guernsey Brethren with their wives joined the Lodge of Honour members and partners for a champagne reception and fabulous dinner dance at the Apex hotel, with dancing until midnight. You will be proud to hear that W Bro Steve received a number of compliments afterwards from Bath brethren about now well the Guernsey group had led the dancing right up to the last ‘New York, New York !’ leg kicks!

Sunday saw a very tired group travel home via Bristol after a thoroughly enjoyable weekend. The Bath brethren have expressed their thanks to the Guernsey group for making the journey and joining them on such a milestone occasion.
