The wreath arrived safely thanks to Matt Tostevin of St Martin’s Lodge, No.4142 who transported it on behalf of the Privateers Chapter of the Widows Sons Masonic Bikers Association.
Around 600 people were at the National Memorial Arboretum for the service, this year hosted by Metropolitan Grand Lodge. Freemasons, armed forces personnel, friends and family were in attendance to remember and to honour.
Freemason, Warrant Officer Johnson Beharry, VC, was also amongst those laying wreaths. Deputy head of Freemasonry in the Bailiwick Simon Hamon accompanied by Standard Bearer Rob Alder laid a wreath on behalf of all the Masons in the islands together with 47 other area Heads, as well as the Heads of the other Orders in Freemasonry throughout the UK to honour those who have served and sacrificed in the defence of our nation.
Freemasons under United Grand Lodge of England have recently attained the Armed Forces Covenant Gold Award, and this event is an excellent opportunity for us to demonstrate our commitment to those who have served, or are serving, in the armed forces.
“They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them”.
