Members of the Guernsey and Alderney Light Blues Freemasons Club swapped their Sunday morning lie-in for paint brushes recently, helping to refresh and protect fencing at St Martin’s New Cemetery.
On a glorious sunny morning, seven volunteers from the club, alongside a senior Freemason, gave their time to assist St Martin’s Parish with repainting sections of fencing, railings and gates at the cemetery, located just a short distance from the Masonic Hall.
The initiative was organised by the Guernsey and Alderney Light Blues Freemasons Club as part of its commitment to supporting local community projects and helping where practical assistance is needed.
Matt Tostevin, Secretary of the Guernsey and Alderney Light Blues Freemasons Club, said:
“We were delighted to support St Martin’s Parish with this project. The fencing and gates were in need of some much-needed maintenance and it was fantastic to see our volunteers come together on a sunny Sunday morning to help refresh and protect them for years to come. I would like to thank everyone who gave up their time to assist and it was a pleasure to help coordinate the day. Keeping everyone supplied with water and a few sausage rolls certainly helped keep spirits high as we worked through the morning.”
Volunteer Aaron Brehaut said:
“It was lovely to be able to help the Parish and wider community in such a practical way. Community projects like this make a real difference and it was great to spend time with fellow volunteers while contributing to an important local facility that is used and appreciated by so many people.”
Light Blues Committee Member Steve Byrne added:
“The Light Blues are always keen to support community initiatives and worthwhile local projects whenever we can.
