St Sampsons Lodge No.2598 Founders Jewel, that had somehow survived the Occupation the Consecration of St Sampsons Lodge took place on Friday the 22nd May 1896 with approximately 120 brethren being present, this making the Jewel 130 years old this year!
The Founders of the Lodge were Worshipful Brothers Wm Stranger, J.J. Stranger and T.R. Ogier and Brothers A.H. Terry, H. Merrall, Wm Bird, D.F. Ogier, F. Crumpton and G.A. Eastland.
W Bro. Wm Stranger Past Master of Fidelis Lodge No.1809 was installed as the first Worshipful Master of the Lodge, with the following officers being invested, W Bro T.R. Ogier as Senior Warden, Bro A.H. Terry as Junior Warden.
The Jewel is in very good condition with only minor damage to the ribbon, at the top is a bar with the Lodge name on then in the centre of the light blue ribbon is the St Sampsons Lodge crest with a bar at the bottom of the ribbon with the Lodge number, then suspended from a ring is the Jewel consisting of the Guernsey Crest and the word “Founder” below.
The Jewel belonged to W Bro W. Bird, who was initiated into Fidelis Lodge No.1809 on the 22nd February 1888, Passed on the 28th March 1888 and Raised on the 25th April 1888at the age of 22 and Received his Grand Lodge Certificate on the 31st January 1889 he was Worshipful Master of St Sampsons Lodge No.2598 during the years 1900 and 1901.
