This Past Masters Jewel is made of silver gilt with the Hansard crest attached to a dark blue ribbon on the top banner is the wording “1st I.P.M” and the bottom banner “1911-1912” the Jewel is made by C Weeden & Sons.
On the reverse of the Square it is engraved “Presented to Rt Wo Bro Victor G Carey PGD Eng, Prov Gd Master, Founder and 1st IPM of Hansard Lodge No.3515. On Tuesday, the 30th May, 1911, Hansard Lodge, No.3515 was consecrated. It was named after Colonel A. C. Hansard, who had been installed to the Office of Provincial Grand Master of Guernsey and Alderney on the 20th July, 1910.
Consecrating the new Lodge took place at 5.15 p.m. in the South New Market Hall, which had been specially prepared for the occasion, of W Bro. Ira C, Ozanne, as First Master of the Lodge, followed, and the First Immediate Past Master of the Hansard Lodge was Rt. W Bro. Victor G. Carey.
The consecration ceremony ended at 7.45pm and was followed by a banquet that, took place at Gardner’s Royal Hotel, the guests numbering between 70 and 80. The menu was varied and at pre-war prices five shillings.
The Immediate Past Masters Jewel was presented to Rt W Bro. Victor G Carey at the Silver Jubilee meeting held on the 25th May 1936. The meeting was attended by 76 Brethren 40 of those were members of the Hansard Lodge and there were 36 visitors.
The following was taken from the minutes from that meeting;
“The Rt. Wor Prov. Grand Master in accepting the jewel sincerely thanked the Brethren. He had always from its very beginning taken a deep interest in the destinies of Hansard Lodge. He then proceeded to give the reasons why Hansard Lodge had been founded and thought that the Lodge had fully realised the wishes of its Founders. He was proud of being its first Immediate Past Master and was delighted that the Lodge was successfully carrying on its tradition. This Lodge had an atmosphere all of its own; it was distinguished for the musical ability of the Brethren and for the harmony that clearly existed among the Brethren. He thanked them for the generous support and help given to him and on future visits to the Lodge he would be proud to wear the jewel just presented to him”
Rt W Bro Carey was Initiated into Doyle’s Lodge of fellowship No.84 on the 12th March 1902 Passed on the 9th April 1902 and Raised on the 14th May 1902. He was a Founding member of Hansard Lodge No. 3515, St Martins Lodge No.4142 and Victor Carey Lodge No.6892. He was installed as Provincial Grand Master on the 21st October 1927.
