One of the key values in Freemasonry is Service, whether participating in events, fundraising for a charitable cause or volunteering for public or community organisations, service is at the very heart of Freemasonry.
W Bro Sean Petralia who has been a member of the Cliff Rescue teamfor 5 years that was formed in its current format in 2016 explains the team are a 100% volunteer rescue service and is part of the Guernsey Fire & Rescue Service and is fully funded by charity donations,
On average the team carry out 5 major recues a year, most of the team’sother call outs are generally for dogs and other animals that end up either falling or getting stranded on cliffs, along with the teams monthly training sessions, spending many hours to ensure they maintain their high skill levels and competency.
The team have also spent time assisting in keeping the Island clean by spending hours clearing fly tipped rubbish from the South Coast Cliffs, where they filled two one tonne bags with everything from kitchen units to soiled nappies.
Freemasons volunteer across various sectors in the local community including the Lifeboat, Channel Island Air Search, Guernsey Civil Protection, Royal British Legion and many others that we will feature in the future, to offer their time and expertise, whether raising money for the charitable causes and as demonstrated by W Bro Petralia lifesaving assistance at a time of need.
