On Friday 5th December Deputy Head of Guernsey and Alderney Freemasons, Simon Hamon handed over a cheque of £10,000.00 to the Bailiwick of Guernsey Victim Support and Witness Service.
These much-needed funds will help with the delivery of this important service. Victim Support and Witness Service. They are not part of the Police, the criminal justice system or the Government. The service which started in 1998 provides free and confidential, emotional support, practical help and information to victims and witnesses of crime, as well as those involved in family matters before the court.
Charity Chairman Peter Harwood said, “We remain committed to advancing and will continue to campaign for the needs of victims of crime within our community.”
Jenny Murphy, Manager for the service explained “We are incredibly grateful for this donation from the Guernsey Freemasons. Community support is vital in helping us provide timely, accessible assistance to victims and witnesses, whether they self-refer or come to us through the Police or another agency. This funding enables our trained staff and volunteers to offer support at a time and place that feels safe for each person”.
Simon Hamon said, “I am very familiar with the excellent work the service and its volunteers provides, and they make a huge impact for people in troubling times in our community. Not all the matters dealt with by the service go to court or even get reported to the police, its just a very helpful and comforting service that can offer support and signposting and I’m delighted our members have chosen to support them”.
