On Saturday the Head of Freemasons with our local Charity representative visited the team at Relate Guernsey in St Peter Port.
Relate Guernsey help couples and single people build stronger relationships regardless of their sexuality, marital status, or gender. With their highly qualified and experienced counsellors who are dedicated to helping clients overcome any relationship issues they may be facing. Recognising that relationships can be challenging in the modern world and Relate are there to provide users with the support and guidance they need to build stronger, healthier connections with those they care about.
There are a number of services on offer for example Individual Counselling, Couples Counselling and Family Counselling along with Parenting Support. To do this Relate need to fundraise throughout the year to top up their bursary fund to help people that need but cannot afford relationship counselling. As well as people who self-refer to the services available Relate often get referrals from doctors, oncologists, midwives, social workers and other agencies on the island asking them to help people and they need our help to do this.
Guernsey Freemasons are pleased to be able to support this little thought of charity, and we hope that our donation of £10,000.00 will give a boost to the fundraising and help people in Guernsey and Alderney needing these services and to be able to get the support they need from Relate Guernsey.
Michelle Champion Manager or Relate Guernsey said “Relate counsels individuals and couples regardless of marital status, sexuality, religion and financial ability. We will help regardless of whether people want to stay together or separate in the best possible way. We believe that healthy relationships are the foundation of a thriving community.
Relate Guernsey has 5 counsellors. Our counsellors are all highly qualified in their own right, and then undertake the Relate training. Counselling couples is very nuanced as the two individuals do not always want the same thing.
We are a partner of Bailiwick Social Prescribing and often signpost clients to other charities for help.
We have a psychosexual therapist and family counsellor on staff.
We don’t receive States help and rely on fundraising. This is not always easy due to the private nature of our work. We are based at 5 Smith Street and have a charity shop at the top of Smith Street.’
