Royal Arch Sojourners Collar Jewel belonging and being used by Mariners Chapter No.168.
The Royal Arch is the continuation of Craft Freemasonry, its members are called Companions and meet in Chapters. To join the Royal Arch, you must be a Master Mason of at least four weeks standing and is considered both a natural and traditional next step in Freemasonry and the completion of “Pure ancient Masonry”.
The Jewel is suspended from a crimson collar and is in the form of a triangle depicting Deity, within the centre is a Square, the back of the Jewel is engraved on the bottom “Mariners Chapter No.168”.
There are three Sojourners in the Chapter the 2nd Assistant the 1st Assistant and the Principal Sojourner and their roles are to assist in the smooth running of the Chapter and pay key roles in the Exaltation of Candidates. The term Sojourner means a journeyman mason who arrives as a stranger intending to move on in due course.
Companions meet in Chapters under the Provincial Grand Chapter, in the province of Guernsey and Alderney there are six Royal Arch Chapters, Mariners No.168, Doyle’s No.84, Loyalty No.243, St Ann’s No.593, Fidelis No.1809 and St Sampson’s No.2598. Mariners Chapter was Warranted on the 7th May 1952 and Consecrated at the Le Marchant Street Masonic Temple on the 18th September 1952.
